Kitchen Kung Fu: Owen’s Easter Birthday Doughnuts

Happy Easter to my Christian friends and I hope my Jewish friends had a lovely Passover Friday night. We are also celebrating Owen’s 4th birthday tomorrow. So Josh and I invented a new recipe this morning – Owen’s Easter Birthday Doughnuts. Owen asked for blue ones and had selected flower sprinkles already. These were moist and delicious. We used our baked doughnut pan.

2 cups flour

3/4 cup sugar

2tsp. baking powder

1 dash salt

1 tbsp. butter, melted

2 beaten eggs

3/4 cup milk

1 tsp. vanilla

1/4 tsp. cinnamon

3 Tablespoons chocolate syrup

1 Tablespoon sprinkles in batter, then more on top

3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Combine these things in order. Bake at 325 for 10 – 12 minutes, until top springs back. Makes 9.

Joshua had his first show at a library Friday. It was so much fun. We taught measurement, kitchen safety, how to crack and separate eggs, how to make and roll a pie crust, then we made a refrigerator dessert. He is booked up through the summer and we’re looking forward to this. He handed out cookbooks of his recipes and handouts with tips. Great fun!
