Handwritten Recipe Wednesday: “1 Layer” Cake

I had a blast last night discussing Vintage Ice Cream Treats at the Eisenhower Public Library. The audience enjoyed sundaes and Klondike Bars. Remember those? Still around, in similar packaging to that when they were first sold in the 1920′s.

I still have cake on the mind, though. I found this in one of my handwritten recipe boxes.

“1 layer”

1 stick butter

1 cup Graham crumbs

6 oz. choc chips

6 oz. butterscotch chip

1 cup coconut

1 cup Borden eagle con-sweet (has to be condensed sweet milk)

1 cup nuts

350F 30 min.

let cool – 45 min -

    This sounds very similar to a 7 layer cookie that has been my sons favorites for over 30 years. I have seen them called Hello Dolly bars, but never a 1 layer cake.
