Handwritten Recipe Wednesday: Magic Cookie Bars

This is a divider card in one of my collection of recipe boxes. The box is chock full of clippings and recipes, but I liked this one as I’ve eaten several delicious versions of it and it seems easy enough.

1/2 cup butter

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)

1 (6 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate morsels

1 (3 1/2 oz.) can flaked coconut (1 1/3 cups)

1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350F (325F for glass dish). In 13×9 inch baking pan, melt margarine in oven. Sprinkle crumbs over margarine; stir together and press into pan. Pour Eagle Brand evenly over crumbs. Top evenly with remaining ingredients; press down firmly. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool thoroughly before cutting. Store loosely covered at room temperature.     My two grown sons always receive a pan of this type of cookie every year for Christmas. Their aunt has been making this for them since they were toddlers. They are twins and their birthdays are in a few days, I am thinking I should make them a pan of these for them.
