Happy Valentine’s Day! One year, my wonderful husband got me this cookbook for a gift – it is hard to find, and part of my favorite series. I was thrilled. This year he upgraded my karate lessons so I am now committed to getting a black belt in three years. I’m thrilled with this as well.

Here’s a cute recipe from the Cookie Jar Cookbook.

Kiss Cakes

3 egg whites

1/2 cup sugar

1/8 tsp. lemon extract

Beat egg whites (at room temperature) in a medium mixing bowl until foamy. Gradually add sugar. 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form. Fold in lemon extract. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto waxed paper-lined cookie sheets. Bake at 300F for 45 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheets; gently remove from waxed paper. Yield: 4 dozen
