Retro Crafting Friday: Easy Apron

I have aprons on the brain as Joshua and I are leading an Amazing Aprons workshop tomorrow at the St. Charles Public Library.

This is an ad from the 1951 October issue of Good Housekeeping. You need only a yd. of cotton, 4 1/4 yard embroidered or lace binding, 3 3/8 yd. grosgrain ribbon, double-fold bias tape.

First you apply the bias tape to all the edges. Then you fold down one corner as per the diagram and run gathering stitches along the fold. The ribbon is stitched over the gathers and left as ties. The lace is applied to the remaining edges.

This is kind of cute – but I really need the full body apron. We tend to make a big mess in my kitchen.

I know – there’s something cute about it, isn’t there?
