Chow Mein Sandwiches?

There is – Thank God – no picture for this recipe. It is another from the Better Homes and Gardens Hamburger and Ground Meat Recipes that I posted from on Thursday. It is followed by Taco and Stroganoff Sandwiches, so this must be their attempt to add world cuisine to the book…

1 pound ground pork

1/2 cup chopped onion

1 16-oz. can chop suey vegetables, drained

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons cornstarch

8 hamburger buns

1/2 of a 3-oz. can chow mein noodles

In skillet cook ground pork and onion till meat is browned. Drain off fat. Stir in chop suey vegetables. Combine soy sauce, cornstarch and 1/3 cup cold water; stir into meat mixture. Cook about 2 minutes or till thickened and bubbly, stirring to coat vegetables and meat. Split and toast buns; spoon meat mixture onto bottom halves of buns. Crumble chow mein noodles on top of meat mixture; cover with top halves of buns. Makes 8 sandwiches.
